Balmain Wolverines Netball Club: Our story
Balmain Wolverines Netball Club has come a long way since its early days (and maroon dresses) in 2009. But we remain trailblazers and champions of inclusion.
The club was formed as an association of the Balmain Rugby Club. The four inaugural women’s teams took the court for the first time in 2009 and quickly cemented themselves as an integral part of the Inner Western Suburbs Netball Association’s competitions.
BWNC has grown to become a prominent presence in the local netball community, an IWSNA Senior Club of the Year and, most importantly, a home to more than 100 members of all backgrounds and skill levels.
In 2023, BWNC led the charge in recruiting men to join the IWSNA’s inaugural Men’s and Mixed competitions. In 2024, we continued to expand, fielding three Men’s teams and five Mixed teams across two divisions.
In 2024 our expansion continued with BWNC entering its first teams into the MNNSW MLeague competition at Sydney Olympic Park.
As much as Wolverines love good competition, what we love more is that netball has been a vehicle for fostering a tight-knit community for women (and now men) from all world of life.
From its humble beginnings, BWNC have grown to be a cherished sporting institution in the Inner West.
